Trespassers (2022)
Single-channel video, 33 seconds, color, sound, concrete blocks, sand
is an animation that narrates my personal experience of growing up in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates: a city marked by its rapidly changing urban environment, a place that cycles between expansion and demolition, where change is the only constant. I shed light into the complex relationship of an expatriate with their country of residence, with no ability to sway the municipality in its decision to demolish and rebuild the city beyond recognition. I turn to the practice of non-attachment to cope with my powerlessness in recovering these memories.
